2017-2018 Administrative Appointments

Karl Adler is very excited to join St. Anne's School as the Director of Student Life and Humanities Coordinator. Karl has worked in independent schools for over twenty years, as an English teacher and school administrator. He has taught upper school English at the Connelly School of the Holy Child and St. Timothy's School. He was the Middle School Division Head at The Calverton School and most recently, served as Head of School for St. James Academy.  During his five year tenure at St. James Academy, Karl initiated programming in the Responsive Classroom Approach, oversaw the continued implementation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, and guided the development of design thinking, which resulted in the establishment of a lively makers’ space and also enhanced both the visual and performing arts and athletic programming at the school. Karl has also worked as a Site Director for Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth in Chestertown, Maryland, and Hong Kong, SAR. 

Karl earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Muhlenberg College and holds a master’s degree of education from Goucher College. Karl completed a post-graduate certificate in school leadership at Johns Hopkins University. Karl and his wife, Danielle Chappell, a lawyer for Legal Aid Annapolis, have two sons, Henry and Peter. When not fully immersed in school life, the Adlers spend their time sailing, cooking, and traveling.

We welcome Suzannah Hopkins as our Director of Admission and Enrollment Management. Suzannah has worked in independent schools for eleven years, most recently as Director of Lower and Middle School Admission for five years at Sandy Spring Friends School. Among her accomplishments in this role, Suzannah established a Middle School international program, participated in the development and launch of a three-year-old program, and guided market research and marketing efforts to benefit the program. Suzannah previously served as Assistant Director of Admission, Lower School, at Sandy Spring Friends School and, prior to that, in the admissions office of Indian Creek School. Suzannah also has worked at the Maryland Higher Education Commission and as the Director of Member Services for the National Press Club, Washington, D.C. where she successfully led marketing campaigns to increase membership. 

Suzannah shares that her favorite aspects of independent school admissions work include connecting with families and finding the right fit or "school home" for every learner. Suzannah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College in English, art history and Italian. She completed a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Art History at the Studio Arts Centers International in Florence, Italy. Suzannah earned her Master of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University in museum studies. In addition to her family, Suzannah shares, “I love art!” Suzannah is a Maryland native, residing for thirteen years in Severna Park with her husband, Steve, and their two boys, Andy and Will.
