Our Third Grade Program
Our Third Grade Program runs from 8:15 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. each day. Extended Care is available before school from 7:15 a.m. and after school until 6:00 p.m. Students may also benefit from our community programs to enhance their school experiences.
Building upon our mission of intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development, the St. Anne’s School Third Grade Program continues with curricula influenced by the Project Approach in a workshop setting. Core subjects are organized into workshops where individuals practice hands-on involvement with material in an active and creative setting. With the teacher serving as the facilitator, Third Grade students are guided and encouraged to become fully involved in the learning process.
The school’s social curriculum is interwoven into all activities and is designed to build a variety of skills to promote a sense of inclusion, belonging and comfort.
Third Grade students will learn techniques to demonstrate respect for self and others; exercise self-control; speak at appropriate times and accept responsibility for words and actions; express ideas and needs clearly when speaking; consider audience when speaking, project voice and speak with expression; demonstrate self-direction, responsibility and independence; accept both leader and follower roles; cooperate in peer initiated and group activities; cope appropriately with frustration and mistakes; respect and listen actively to others’ ideas and feelings; resolve conflicts peacefully; organize personal space and work area; come prepared for daily work; stay on task and complete assignments; and develop and use appropriate homework habits.
A typical day in Third Grade begins with morning meeting. At morning meeting, the children and teachers greet one another and discuss the day’s events, which may include updates and work that needs to be completed on long-term projects. Morning meeting is typically followed by instruction in social studies, language arts, math, media literacy, music/drama, art, physical education, religion, science or Spanish. Our unique buddy classes round out the program.
