our eighth grade program
Religion
While exploring the essential questions, “How does what I believe effect what I do?” “How do our attitudes change/develop?” and “Who is responsible for change?” students study Hinduism, Buddhism, Religions as institutions and on their own personal spiritual beliefs. They consider societal problems and the ways religions seek to alleviate these issues. Texts include the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, Talking Peace, My Friends’ Beliefs: A Young Reader’s Guide to World Religions, A Place at the Table, Struggles for Equality in America and The Alchemist. All students write a personal essay on their beliefs or what they consider as the most important core value of the school. Selected essays are shared during the Eighth Grade Baccalaureate.
