our fifth grade program
Religion
Respect is a main theme of the Fifth Grade Religion class as they explore respect for God and people’s feelings, respect for rules and respect for differences. Students explore essential questions such as “What does the Old Testament tell us about who we are?” and “What is respect?” Students focus on Old Testament readings in the context of respect, decision making and listening skills. They are taught effective discussion skills while discussing biblical stories and watching the video, All About Respect. They interpret the Ten Commandments and create personal Eleventh Commandments. Students read Meet your Bible, the Bible, The Book of Common Prayer and Joshua in the Promised Land, record a journal about the books and participate in class discussions about their readings.
