our eighth grade program
Music
Eighth Grade study focuses on the essential question, “How does the study of music help us to evolve as young adults?” Work is concentrated on written music theory and notation. Students create short compositions on the piano, guitar or xylophone. Using Final Notepad software, students create complex compositions that reflect their understanding of music theory and proper writing techniques. Students examine the characteristics of musicals and work on scenes and songs from their Eighth Grade musical production.
Eighth Graders often begin class listening to music representing different styles and genres. Students sing during class and are encouraged to take solos in order to become comfortable when performing.
Eighth Graders' final music project is "Battle of the Bands. Students create a group to write a song, or perform an already-written song. Each group performs in front of the full class and is judged by a panel of teachers. The teachers offer creative criticism and help decide which is the top band.
