our fourth grade program
Media Literacy
Fourth Graders attend a weekly, 80-minute session in the media center called “media literacy class.” During this class, students develop a deepened understanding of the multiple print and electronic tools that are available for use in researching and evaluating information central to their studies. In developing facility with technological tools and media, Fourth Grade students are introduced to relevant computer terminology, advanced computer usage and skills, use of the interactive white board, and word processing instruction. Students will create spreadsheets and graphs to compare measurements of themselves and their Kindergarten buddies using Microsoft Excel. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, students will use fish reports to create a slide show presentation. Skills include concepts of layout and design using WordArt, text and picture frames. During this time period, students also access print materials and analyze and evaluate the print and electronic resources to determine which to use in their research.
