our seventh grade program
Art
Seventh Grade students explore mixed media, color, texture and the use of space in a project entitled, “Altered Space.” Students create studies of the art room and build – in much the same fashion as a stage set would be constructed – a triangular-shaped diorama using any landscape. Exploring the essential question, “How do we get order from disorder?” students make art pieces by randomly placing puddles of watercolor paint on folded paper causing a chaotic and random movement of paint which they then define. They find similar designs in the flowing lines of Islamic art as they create Arabesques in colored pencil. Working collaboratively in small groups, students design, solve problems and build a small hut from soda cans. In science they study different types of insulation used in building and its effectiveness and they use that information to guide their designs.
